A primeira divisão de Malawi é conhecida como Super Liga, e leva sempre o nome de quem a patrocina, sendo criada em 1986. Antes da criação da Super Liga, o futebol em Malawi era dividida em três ligas regionais: a Liga de Blantyre, Lilongwe e Mzuzu que formavam a Blantyre e District Football League (BDFL).
Até o ano de 2008, a Super Liga do Malawi contou com seis patrocinadores diferentes. São eles: Lever Brothers, de 1986 a 1999; Chibuku Products, de 2000 a 2002; DR Bakili Muluzi, em 2003 e 2004; Malawi Government, em 2005; e Telekom Networks, de 2006 a 2009.
Obs.: Nyasa Big Bullets de Blantyre é o detentor dos titulos do Bata Bullets, Total Big Bullets e Bakili Bullets; A equipe Be Forward Wanderers de Blantyre, detentora dos titulos como Limbe Leaf Wanderers, Telecom Wanderers e MTL Wanderers.
